Waldeck to play for Team USA in Champion Challenge

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Former Stony Brook lacrosse standout Steven Waldeck '10 will play for Team USA in an exhibition game against Notre Dame on January 30, US Lacrosse recently announced. Waldeck is one of six defensemen on the 21-member national team.

He enjoyed an illustrious four-year career for the Seawolves, finishing with 313 ground balls, including 112 in 2010, the third most in school history. Among all long poles, he led the country with 10 goals and four assists. The three-time America East first-team selection finished his four-year career with 17 goals and 11 assists.

The squad is coached by former Long Island standout and Stony Brook assistant coach Kevin Cassese, who is entering his fourth season as head coach at Lehigh.

The Champion Challenge is set for 1:30 p.m. Jan. 30, with the game set to re-air on ESPNU at 10 p.m. that evening.
