In search of its first America East victory, the Stony Brook University women's basketball team begins a three-game road trip with a contest against the Maine Black Bears on Sunday afternoon. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
Last time out
Senior Kirsten Jeter (Elmont, N.Y.) and junior Destiny Jacobs (Glen Burnie, Md.) each had 17 points and six rebounds but the first-place Boston University Terriers shot 60 percent in the second half on its way to an 82-65 victory over the Seawolves on Thursday at Pritchard Gymnasium.
Stony Brook led 25-18 with 7:23 left in the first half but BU closed the period on a 17-3 run and then scored 12 of the first 16 points of the second half to take a 47-32 lead. The Terriers lead would grow to as many as 18 on a three-pointer from Alex Young with 10:43 left.
The Seawolves came roaring back though, out-scoring BU, 9-1, over the next four minutes to make it 62-52 with just over six minutes left in the game. But Chantell Alford answered with a three on the Terriers ensuing possession to spark a 9-0 run that put the game away.
Scouting Maine
Maine (3-15, 1-5 AE) enters off a 57-48 loss to Vermont on Thursday, its third straight defeat. The Black Bears defeated UMBC, 60-57, on Jan. 9 for its only America East win.
The Black Bears are last in the conference in scoring offense (48.8 points per game) and field goal percentage (.311) since the start of America East play. Ashleigh Roberts ranks eighth in the conference in scoring (13.7 points per game) during conference play and scored 17 against Vermont on Thursday.
Roberts is also grabbing 6.0 boards per contest in league play. Amber Smith is averaging a team-high 10.7 points per game for the Black Bears, who are 2-6 at home.
Maine has shot under 40 percent in 11 of its last 12 games. Its only time over 40 percent came in a 66-62 win over UMass on Dec. 29

Stony Brook leads the all-time series, 11-9. Stony Brook has won four of the last five meetings while six of the last seven meetings have been decided by 10 points or less.

Cassie Klockgether scored a career-high 17 points and made 5-of-9 three-point attempts as the Seawolves defeated Maine, 59-47, at Pritchard Gymnasium. The Seawolves forced Maine into 25 turnovers while recording double-digit steals for the fourth consecutive game. Stony Brook outscored Maine 30-3 in bench points and turned the 25 Maine turnovers into 23 points.
