About the Game: The Stony Brook University women's basketball team will look to return to the win column on Wedneday night, traveling to take on the Sacred Heart Pioneers. This will be the 15th all-time meeting between the schools. The Pioneers lead the series 10-4 and have won the last two meetings.
Meet the Seawolves: The Seawolves are leading the America East in scoring defense at 54.4 points per game. Stony Brook had held its opponents to just 47.0 points per game over its four contests before giving up 84 points to Ohio State on Friday. Junior Jessica Previlon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) ranks sixth in the America East in rebounding (7.6 per game).
Scouting Sacred Heart: The Pioneers opened the season 4-0 for the first time in 33 years before dropping their first game of the season at Saint Joseph’s on Saturday afternoon. All four of SHU’s victories have come by double figures as they’ve defeated Siena, Columbia, Colgate and Lehigh. Senior Callan Taylor is averaging a team-high 13.8 points per game and is one of three Pioneers averaging double-figures. A first team All-NEC selection last season, Taylor ranked second in the conference in scoring and fourth in rebounding. The Pioneers went 18-13 last season, finished third in the NEC and advanced to the WBI. SHU was picked to finish fourth in the NEC preseason coaches poll.
Last time out: Stony Brook fell to the No. 18 Ohio State Buckeyes on Friday at Value City Arena as OSU shot 57.4 percent on its way to a 84-37 victory over the Seawolves. Junior Jessica Previlon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Seawolves with seven points and five rebounds while junior Sam Landers (Springfield, Va.) chipped in with six points. Samantha Prahalis led Ohio State with 25 points and 11 assists.
