The Stony Brook men's lacrosse team, ranked sixth in this week's polls, hosts Delaware at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium on Saturday. The Seawolves are coming off a 13-7 win over Marist while the Blue Hens lost to Albany, 11-9, in their last game. Stony Brook leads the all-time series with Delaware, 5-2. The Seawolves have won the last four meetings, including a 16-12 victory in Newark last season. Junior Jordan McBride (New Westminster, British Columbia) had seven goals and an assist in last year's game. In 2008, McBride scored 10 goals against Delaware in a 19-16 win. McBride has 20 goals on just 23 shots against the Blue Hens.
About Delaware
Eric Smith leads the Blue Hens (4-2) with 10 goals and 10 assists. Five other players have scored at least five goals, including nine from Sean Finegan and eight from Anthony Ruiz. Dan Cooney is the Blue Hens' primary face-off specialist, winning 74-of-124 draws. Noah Fossner has .509 save percentage and a 9.30 goals against average. Delaware has eight players from Long Island on its roster.
Last Time Out
Behind four goals from senior Jordan McBride and three goals from senior Kevin Crowley, seventh-ranked Stony Brook beat Marist, 13-7, in men's lacrosse action at Tenney Stadium on March 5.
McBride, who did not score in the season-opening loss to Virginia, added an assist, as he upped his career goal total to 138. Crowley now has 184 points, inching closer to the school record of 201, set by Jason Cappadoro in 2006.
Senior Tom Compitello, who did not play against the Cavaliers, bolstered the Seawolves' offense with a game-high three assists. Senior Adam Rand continued his face-off prowess, winning 18-of-21 draws. Rand, who was named to the Tewaaraton Award watch list along with McBride, Crowley and Compitello, has won 35-of-47 (.745) face-offs this season.
The Seawolves scored eight straight goals to end the game and held the Red Foxes scoreless for the final 19:36 of game action.
