Freshman Brandon McNitt (Chino Hills, Calif.), of the Stony Brook University baseball team, has been named a 2011 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper recently announced.
The 2011 America East Rookie of the Year, McNitt went 7-3 with a 2.03 ERA in 79.2 innings with the ERA mark ranking 39th in the nation. A second team all-conference selection, the right-hander walked just 18 batters and held opponents to a .231 batting average.
It is the second straight season and the third time in the last four years that a Stony Brook player has been named a Louisville Slugger freshman All-American. Sophomore William Carmona (Hempstead, N.Y.) earned the honor last year and senior Chad Marshall (Paris, Ontario) earned it in 2008.
Stony Brook won a school record 42 games in 2011 on its way to its first ever America East regular season title.
