About the Game: Stony Brook will try to snap a two-game losing streak on Thursday against the UMBC Retrievers, the defending America East regular season champions and preseason pick to win the conference. 

Meet the Seawolves: Stony Brook leads the America East in both scoring defense (52.9 points per game) and field goal percentage defence (.381). The scoring defense mark ranks 27th in the nation. 

Scouting UMBC: The preseason favorite to win the America East, the Retrievers are off to a 2-1 start in conference play following a 75-55 win at Maine on Saturday. UMBC is led by senior all-conference selections Erin Brown and Michelle Kurowski. Brown leads the America East in scoring at 15.7 points per game while Kurowski ranks 10th (11.7 ppg). Freshman point guard Lauren Chase is averaging a conference-best 3.9 assists per contest. The teams have three common opponents this season. Both teams beat Morgan State and lost to Albany. UMBC defeated George Mason while the Seawolves lost to the Patriots. UMBC is last in the America East in rebounding but is second turnover margin and is averaging just 15.0 turnovers per game. 

Last time out: Stony Brook University’s women’s basketball team dropped its second straight game, falling to the Albany Great Danes, 57-32, in an America East conference match-up on Sunday afternoon at Pritchard Gymnasium. Ebony Henry led Albany with 20 points and six rebounds as the the Great Danes shot 54.5 percent from the field. Senior Destiny Jacobs led SBU with nine points. Stony Brook trailed by seven six minutes into the second half but Albany held the Seawolves scoreless over the next eight minutes, scoring 20 straight points to put the game away.
