About the Game: Stony Brook will try to return to the win column and snap a five-game losing skid on Saturday afternoon against Maine. The Seawolves have won five straight meetings between the teams including three last season.
Meet the Seawolves: Stony Brook is second in the America East and 31st in the nation in scoring defense at 55.3 points per game. Junior Dani Klupenger (Aurora, Ore.) is averaging 2.2 threes per game during conference play, which ranks third in the America East.
Scouting Maine: Maine is in its first season under head coach Richard Barron. The Black Bears fell to Hartford on Thursday after picking up their first conference win on Monday against Vermont. The victory over the Catamounts snapped a 11-game losing streak. Samantha Baranowski scored a career-high 19 points against Hartford after scoring a then career-best 18 points in the win over Vermont. Baranowski is leading the conference in field goal percentage. Maine is second in the America East in rebounding and third in field goal percentage. But the Black Bears are last in the conference in scoring defense and field goal percentage defense and are averaging a league-high 21.1 turnovers per game.
Last time out: Senior Whitney Davis scored a season-high 17 points and the Stony Brook University women’s basketball team cut an 15-point first half deficit to one in the second half but the New Hampshire Wildcats held on late for a 63-53 victory over the Seawolves on Monday night at Lundhold Gymnasium. Davis also grabbed five rebounds for the Seawolves, who shot 44 percent from the field. Junior Taylor Burner added a career-high 12 points and junior Jessica Previlon chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds.
