About the Game: Stony Brook kicks off the second half of the conference season on Saturday afternoon, hosting the Vermont Catamounts. SBU defeated the Catamounts 54-47 in the America East opener on Jan. 2, the Seawolves first victory over UVM since Feb. 24, 2007.
Meet the Seawolves: Stony Brook is third in the America East and 48th in the nation in scoring defense at 55.8 points per game. Junior Dani Klupenger is third in the America East in three-point field goals per game during conference play (1.9).
Scouting Vermont: The Catamounts have been off since falling to visiting UMBC last Sunday. UVM has dropped four straight since a two-game winning streak. Vermont leads the America East in overall scoring offense but its fourth since the beginning of conference play. The Catamounts are eighth in scoring defense and field goal percentage defense during America East play. Junior Lauren Wheeler and freshman Tierra Shumpert are leaing the Catamounts in scoring during conference play at 9.2 and 9.1 points per game, respectively. The Seawolves held the Catamounts to 28.1 percent shooting in the first meeting between the teams in addition to holding UVM 15 points below its scoring average.
Last time out: Senior Whitney Davis led the Stony Brook women’s basketball team with 12 points but the Hartford Hawks shot 48 percent on their way to a 63-44 victory over the Seawolves on Wednesday night at Chase Arena. Senior Destiny Jacobs added nine points and five rebounds for the Seawolves, who shot 42 percent and out-scored the Hawks 24-18 in the paint. Ruthanne Doherty led three Hartford players in double-figures with 14 points.
