About The Game: Stony Brook travels to Virginia to play the defending national champions. The Seawolves and Cavaliers have played two of the more memorable games in recent history. In 2010, Stony Brook and Virginia were paired in the NCAA Quarterfinals at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium, where UVa edged SBU, 10-9, before the largest crowd ever to watch a Stony Brook athletic event (10,024). Last year, the Seawolves sent the game to overtime after Russ Bonanno's goal with three seconds left in regulation. But Steele Stanwick's goal with 44 seconds remaining in overtime lifted the Cavaliers to an 11-10 victory. Virginia has won all nine games during the series.
Scouting Fairfield: Virginia (2-0) edged Drexel, 9-8, and topped VMI, 19-5, to start the season. Chris Bocklet (3g, 4a) and Stanwick (2g, 5a) lead the team with seven points. Matt White and Owen Van Arsdale have tallied four goals apiece. Rob Fortunato has taken over for a four-year starter in Adam Ghitelman, and owns a 7.33 goals against average in two starts.
Last Time Out: Stony Brook University's men's lacrosse team dropped its 2012 season opener to Fairfield, 13-10, at Alumni Field on February 18.
Senior Robbie Campbell (Delta, British Columbia) led the Seawolves with two goals and two assists. Junior Jeff Tundo (Orchard Park, N.Y.) added two goals and an assist. Redshirt freshman Mike Rooney (East Islip, N.Y.) recorded a team-high three goals in his first collegiate action.
