Baseball travels to UMBC for three-game series

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The first-place Stony Brook University baseball team continues America East play this weekend, traveling to face the UMBC Retrievers in a three-game series. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday before playing a single game on Sunday. First pitch is set for noon both days.

unior Travis Jankowski (Lancaster, Pa.) went 4-for-4 and sophomore Kevin Courtney's (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) three-run double in the fifth broke a 2-2 tie as the Stony Brook baseball team defeated the Fairfield Stags, 6-4, on Wednesday afternoon.

Stony Brook (31-10, 9-2 AE) has won seven straight and 17 of its last 19 ... Stony Brook is 31-4 in America East regular season play since the start of last season ... junior Tanner Nivins (Kitchener, Ontario) is hitting a team-best .467 in conference play ... Stony Brook entered this week ranked second in the nation in triples, third in fielding percentage and eighth in ERA ... junior leadoff hitter Travis Jankowski (Lancaster, Pa.) is hitting .556 (15-for-17) with 11 runs scored over the last eight games ... he has an on-base percentage of .667 over that stretch ... he also ranks sixth in the nation in triples and 17th in steals ... sophomore Brandon McNitt (Chino Hills, Calif.) leads the America East and is 12th in the country in ERA at 1.12.

Scouting UMBC
The Retrievers (9-29, 1-10 AE) dropped three of four to Albany last weekend. Brian Klukowicz is leading the America East in hitting at .382. The Retrivers pitching staff is allowing almost nine runs per game.
