After throwing a three-hit shutout in the rubber game of the Seawolves three-game series with Binghamton, senior right-hander Evan Stecko-Haley has been named America East Baseball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. In addition, freshman Cole Peragine earned Rookie of the Week honors.
Stecko-Haley allowed an infield single in the second inning and then retired 17 straight batters in Stony Brook's 8-0 victory over the Bearcats on Sunday. He is now 6-3 with a 2.10 ERA in 10 starts this season.
Peragine went 4-for-6 against Binghamton with all four hits going for extra bases. In 10 plate appearances, he posted an on-base percentage of .714 and is hitting .313 in 46 starts this season.
The first-place Seawolves (36-11, 14-3 AE) took two of three from second-place Binghamton over the weekendand have won 22 of their last 25 games.
Ranked No. 30 in the latest NCBWA poll, Stony Brook hosts UMBC in a three-game series this weekend.
