After an impressive opening weekend, her first as a collegiate, freshman outside hitter Melissa Rigo (East Northport, N.Y.) has been named the America East Volleyball Player and Rookie of the Week.
Rigo averaged a conference-best 4.25 kills per set on a .313 hitting percentage in Stony Brook's three matches at the Black Knight Invitational. She had 17 kills and 12 digs in the season opener against Indiana on Friday and then tallied 22 kills and 14 digs in the five-set loss to Army on Saturday.
Named to the Black Knight Invitational All-tournament team, Rigo averaged 5.25 points per set.
The Seawolves return to action this weekend for the Yale Invitational, during which they'll take on American, Texas A&M and the host Bulldogs.
