Volleyball heads to Seton Hall Invitational this weekend

Winners of three straight matches, the Stony Brook volleyball team looks to continue its winning ways at the Seton Hall Invitational this weekend. The Seawolves clash with Seton Hall Friday night at 7 p.m. before facing Morgan State Saturday at 11 a.m.

Last Time Out: The Seawolves took three out of four matches at the Rose Hill Classic in the Bronx to finish in second place in the four-team tournament. SB was actually three points away from winning all four matches, but the Seawolves played incredibly strong volleyball throughout the weekend. Melissa Rigo continued her impressive freshman campaign by posting 77 kills and 50 digs in the four matches including double-doubles in three of the four matches. Evann Slaughter also had a stong weekend, hitting over 30 percent over the four matches, and Nicole Vogel and Hannah Dolan continued their impressive run as setters.

Scouting the Seton Hall Invitational
Seton Hall is 9-1 to start the 2012 season and has won six straight matches. The Pirates defeated Princeton in their home opener on Wednesday and have won four of their last five in straight sets. Stacey Manthorpe is leading the team with 3.16 kills per set, often getting assists from her twin sister Shelby Manthorpe, who averages 8.22 assists per set. Morgan State is winless this season, having lost its first nine matches. The team has won just two sets this season. The Bears have gotten strong play from freshman Arianna Hayden, who led the team with 31 kills and 19 digs at the Greyhound Challenge last weekend.
