Stony Brook, N.Y. - Following a remarkable turnaround last season, the Stony Brook women's basketball team is set to open the 2013-14 campaign by hosting NJIT Friday, Nov. 8 as part of the #Seawolves Basketball Tip-Off, a double-header with the men. The squad will then travel to Annapolis, Md., to play Navy Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m.
Promotions
The team will hold an autograph session following the game. Arena tours will be given after the men's game at 8 p.m. For tickets, call (631) 632-WOLF or order online.

What a Turnaround
Stony Brook produced the seventh-best turnaround in the country in 2012-13 with a 10-win improvement from 2011-12. Picked to finish ninth in the America East preseason coaches' poll, the Seawolves won 14 games and earned a No. 4 seed into the conference championship. The 14 wins were the most for the program since 2006-07, while the seed was its highest since 2010-11.
Scouting the Highlanders
The Highlanders went 16-15 and won the final Great West Tournament championship in 2012-13. Senior Uju Nwankwo, averaged 7.1 points and 7.6 boards per game and is the team's leading returning scorer and rebounder.

This is the second meeting between the two squads. Stony Brook trumped NJIT, 59-34, on Nov. 25, 2012.
Scouting the Mids
The reigning Patriot League champions, Navy returns eight letterwinners and all five starters from last year's squad that finished 22-12 and went to the NCAA Tournament. Senior forward Jade Geif led the Mids with 13 points and 7.9 rebounds per game in 2012-13, while senior guard Alix Membreno chipped in 11.3 points and 6.7 boards per contest.

Preseason Pick
Stony Brook has been picked third in the America East preseason coaches' poll. It is the second highest preseason spot in program history for the Seawolves, who were chosen second in 2006-07, and their best since being slotted fourth in 2010-11.
Sabre Proctor Named Preseason All-America East
The league's leading returning scorer, Sabre Proctor, was named to the preseason all-conference team Oct. 15. Proctor averaged a team-best 10.9 points per game and was 10th in the America East in field goal percentage at 43-percent. One of the top free throw shooters in the conference, her 78.4-percent free throw percentage was the highest best in the league. Proctor is the first preseason all-conference pick for Stony Brook since Kirsten Jeter in 2010-11.
Rebound that Ball
SB ranked second in the league in rebounding margin (+3.7) and rebounding defense (33.5) and finished third in rebounding offense (37.3). Chikilra Goodman was sixth in the league in rebounding average (6.6) and fifth in defensive boards per game (5.3).
Happy Returns
The Seawolves welcome back eight letterwinners and two starters from last season, including 2012-13 All-Rookie selection and forward Brittany Snow, who saw time in all 30 games and made 26 starts. Sabre Proctor, a third-team all-conference honoree last season, also makes her way back to the court for her junior year.

D-FENCE
Defense has been a hallmark of the program since Beth O'Boyle took the reigns in 2011, finishing in the nation's top 50 in scoring defense in each of her first two seasons. Last year, the Seawolves allowed 55.3 points per game, a number that was good for 44th nationally. Stony Brook was 9-2 when holding opponents to fewer than 50 points and return Chikilra Goodman, who was fifth in the league with 2.2 steals per game.
