Box Score Dec. 19, 2014

Final Stats

Stony Brook, N.Y. — The Stony Brook women’s basketball team held Lafayette scoreless for the final 4:13 of the game, and Brittany Snow sank a layup with four ticks left to lift the Seawolves to a 60-58 win Friday night at Island Federal Credit Union Arena. Snow finished with 16 points.

Sophomore Kori Bayne-Walker recorded 10 points and a career-high 10 helpers for the first double-double of her career. She added a personal-best nine rebounds and two steals to her balanced stat line.

Senior Sabre Proctor led all scorers with 19 points for Stony Brook (5-5).

Linnel Macklin paced Lafayette (5-4) with 17 points.

Head Coach Caroline McCombs’ Reaction

“I’m proud of our resiliency and toughness. It says a lot about this group that we were able to rally from a 17-2 deficit early on and then pull out a victory in the final seconds for the second straight game.”

Turning Point

The Seawolves fell behind, 17-2, in the first half and did not make a field goal until a Jessica Ogunnorin layup at 12:34 of the first half. However, they rallied to tie the score at 32-32 at the break.

Lafayette went ahead, 56-49, on a Maddie Peabody 3-pointer with 7:01 left, but two Snow free throws and a free throw and layup from Proctor got Stony Brook within two, 56-54, at 4:40.

Macklin gave Lafayette a 58-54 advantage when she hit a jump shot with 4:13 to play, the last bucket the Leopards would score. Bayne-Walker got to the line and sank two free throws with 2:09 left to cut the deficit to two, 58-56. With the score the same and 60 ticks on the clock, Ogunnorin came up with a steal and Proctor put in a layup to even the score at 58-58 with 38 seconds remaining.

Miranda Jenkins blocked a Jamie O’Hare shot on the other end, and Bayne-Walker grabbed the rebound and got the ball down court. She missed a layup, but Snow cleaned up to give the Seawolves a 60-58 lead with four seconds to play. A Macklin 3-pointer as time expired was off the mark, and Stony Brook celebrated the win.
