Final Stats
Riverside, Calif. - Junior Robert Chavarria (Garden Grove, Calif.) went 2-for-5 with two RBI, and junior Kevin Krause (Staten Island, N.Y.) homered for the second time in three days, but the Stony Brook baseball team took an 11-3 loss to UC Riverside in the rubber match of a three-game series Sunday at the UC Riverside Sports Complex.
Stony Brook slips to 5-8 on the season, and UC Riverside improves to 11-9.

"It was a very disappointing loss today. We were in a position to win the series and let a great opportunity to get away. We'll look to re-group and look to get back to winning baseball when we face Southern California on Tuesday."
Turning Point
Krause gave Stony Brook a 1-0 lead after stroking a first-inning home run to left. The lead held up until the Highlanders put up single runs in the fourth and fifth to go up 2-1. Then UC Riverside took control of the game with a four-run sixth inning. The big hit was Francisco Tellez's two-out, two-run double down the right field line that made it 6-1 Highlanders.
UC Riverside expanded the lead to 11-1 before the #Seawolves scored twice in the ninth on Chavarria's two-run opposite field single to right.
Inside the Numbers
- Stony Brook had 11 hits and three walks as five different #Seawolves reached base safely at least twice. The team left 10 men on base.
- UC Riverside also had 11 hits and drew eight walks. The team left eight men on base.
- Chavarria went 2-for-5 with two RBI. Joining him on the two-hit list were sophomore Jack Parenty (Wantagh, N.Y.), freshman Connor Doyle (Maspeth, N.Y.) and freshman Jeremy Giles (Claremont, Calif.).
- Krause homered for the second time in three days and extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
- Freshman Ryley MacEachern (Saugus, Mass.) started on the mound and allowed three runs on five hits over five innings. He walked four and struck out three.
