Albany, N.Y. – Riding a seven-game winning streak and fresh off arguably one of the biggest wins in the program’s Division I history, the No. 2 Stony Brook women’s basketball team begins play in the America East Championship against No. 7 UMBC. Tip is set for Friday at noon on ESPN3.

Powered by junior guard Jessica Ogunnorin’s career-high 18 points, Stony Brook (22-7, 13-3 America East) ended Albany’s (25-4, 15-1) 38-game America East winning streak in a 66-56 upset Saturday afternoon on ESPN3. Senior guard Chikilra Goodman recorded a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. The loss was the first for Albany since Jan. 28, 2012, a 62-55 setback to Hartford, the longest streak in conference history and tied for the longest in the country. It also ended Great Danes’ quest for a second straight perfect America East regular-season record.
Scouting the Retrievers
UMBC (4-24, 3-13) is coming off a double overtime victory at Binghamton Saturday. Freshman forward Sara Tarbert leads the team with 13.7 points and 6.9 boards per game.

America East Championship History
The Seawolves are 6-12 all-time in the America East Championship. They fell to New Hampshire, 49-46, at the buzzer last season. Stony Brook has advanced to the title game once, in its first season in 2001-02, and has twice been No. 2 (2005-06, 2006-07). The program’s last tournament win came in the play-in game on March 3, 2011 vs. Maine.
Streak Snappers
The Seawolves handed Albany its first conference loss since Jan. 28, 2012, a conference-record streak of 38 contests, when they pulled off a 66-56 upset at SEFCU Arena March 1. The Great Danes’ winning streak was tied with the MEAC’s Hampton for longest in the country.
Seawolves on the Rise
Stony Brook’s 22 wins are the most in its Division I history and are two shy of the all-time mark of 24 set in 1986-87.
