Series History
The Seawolves are 4-4 all-time vs. Iona, losing to the Gaels in New Rochelle last season, 73-62. Sabre Proctor led the Seawolves in scoring with 17 points.
There’s No Place like Home
The inaugural season in Island Federeal Credit Union Arena turned out to be a great succes. The Seawolves wasted no time making IFCU Arena the ultimate home court advantage, going 11-3 on their home floor, the second-best mark in the conference.
Postseason Play
The 2014-15 Seawolves became the third team in Stony Brook history to make the postseason, earning a bid in the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI). After just one postseason appearance in the first 14 seasons in Division I, Stony Brook has now made postseason play in two consecutive seasons. In 2013-14, Stony Brook set a school-record with 24 wins, earning its second bid to the WNIT in school history.
America East All-Conference
The 2015-16 Seawolves return two all-conference players in senior forward Brittany Snow (Shamong, N.J.) and junior guard Kori Bayne-Walker (Rochester, N.Y.). Bayne-Walker was a second team all-conference selection after leading the America East in assists last season at 5.3 apg. She is eighth in school history with 241 career assists with two years of eligibility left. Snow was a third-team all-conference selection, finishing the season with averages of 10.8 ppg and 6.2 rpg.
Let it Snow
The aforementioned Snow is rapidly ascending up the Stony Brook career record books. She is just 149 points shy of becoming the 15th player in school history to join the 1,000 point club. With 149 points and 29 rebounds, she will become just the ninth player in school history to reach 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds.
Beasts of the Boards
The 2014-15 Seawolves thrived on the backboards. Stony Brook outrebounded its opponents in 23 of 31 contests and held a +6.3 rebounding advantage, the second-best rebounding mark in the conference. At times, the Seawolves were dominant on the glass, outrebounding their opponents by double-digits 13 times. Brittany Snow is the leading returning rebounder from last year’s squad. She averaged 6.2 rebounds per game and hauled in a team-high 79 offensive rebounds (2.5 per game.)
Scognamiglio Finds Her Groove
Junior Christa Scognamiglio (Orangeburg, N.Y.), a transfer from Fairfield University, found her rhythm late in her first season playing for the Seawolves in 2014-15. Through the 13 game non-conference schedule, Scognamiglio connected on just eight three-point field goal attempts. Over the final 19 games, she made 46 three pointers, a clip of 2.4 per game. She averaged 4.3 points per game leading up to the conference opener and 11.1 after.
McCombs' First Recruiting Class
Head coach Caroline McCombs and her staff are very excited about their first full recruiting class, made up of three freshmen and two transfers. All three freshmen (Ogechi Anyagaligbo, Jerell Matthews and Davion Wingate) making their 2015-16 debuts won high school state championships and are proven winners on and off the court.
