Stony Brook, N.Y. -
The Stony Brook women's basketball team (3-1) will look for its third straight win on Friday, Nov. 27, when it hosts Ole Miss (1-3) from the SEC at 2 p.m.

Series History

Friday’s matchup will not only be Stony Brook’s first all-time vs. the Rebels, but it will be their first vs. an SEC school in program history.

Scouting the Rebels

The Rebels enjoyed their best season since 2006-07 a year ago, winning 19 games and advancing to the WNIT Third Round. However, they have lost three straight after an opening day drubbing of Mississippi Valley State to kick off their 2015-16 season. The Rebels get up and down the court, averaging 82.0 points per game. Sophomore guard Shandricka Sessom paces Ole Miss’s balanced attack at 17.5 ppg, while ten players average at least 5.0 points per game. The Rebels’ up-tempo style of play has forced its opponents into 95 turnovers through four games (23.8/game.).

Free is Good

The Seawolves are living at the free-throw line, getting to the charity stripe 89 times to just 34 for their opponents. Stony Brook has capitalized on its opportunities from the foul line, shooting 67-of-89 (75.3%) as a team. In Monday’s win over Columbia, Stony Brook shot 25-of-29 (86.3%) from the free-throw line.

America East Player of the Week

Freshman Ogechi Anyagaligbo (Miami, Fla.) notched her first career double-double with an 11 point, 10 rebound effort at Columbia on same day she was named the Under Armour America East Player of the Week. Anyagaligbo leads all freshmen in the conference in scoring (10.3 ppg) and leads the entire conference in rebounding at 8.8 boards per game.

Taking Care of the Basketball

Stony Brook set a season-low with just seven turnovers in its win over the Lions. Junior point guard Kori Bayne-Walker (Rochester, N.Y.) was instrumental in the Seawolves’ ability to protect the ball, registering just one turnover in 35 minutes, despite numerous attempts from the Lions to set up a full-court press. Bayne-Walker scored 21 points and added four assists to lead the Seawolves to victory.
