Dec. 18, 2015
Staten Island, N.Y. - Senior Brittany Snow (Shamong, N.J.) finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds and junior Christa Scognamiglio (Orangeburg, N.Y.) added 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Stony Brook women's basketball team (6-5) over Wagner (2-7), 73-62. Joining Snow and Scognamiglo in double digit rebounds was freshman Ogechi Anyagaligbo (Miami, Fla.), who hauled in a career-high 19, the most by a Stony Brook player since Dana Ferraro vs. Boston University in 2006. Stony Brook outrebounded the Seahawks 59-29 for the game.
Turning Point
The Seawolves scored 31 points in the third quarter, the most they have scored during any quarter this season, to stretch a 29-24 halftime lead into a 60-42 lead. Snow was the catalyst, scoring 14 points on 6-of-6 shooting in the period. Freshman Davion Wingate (Atlanta, Ga.) scored seven of her career-high 17 points in the frame, closing the quarter with a halfcourt heave at the buzzer that found nothing but nylon.
Inside the Numbers
- The Seawolves eclipsed the 50 rebound mark for the first time since they had 54 at Morgan State on Dec. 13, 2014.
- Anyagaligbo's 19 boards wasn't the only career-high; Scognamiglio's 13 were also a career-best.
- Stony Brook shot 24-55 (43.6%) from the field and 5-16 (31.3%) from deep. Wingate was 5-6 for the game and 3-3 from three-point range.
- Wagner was a less-efficient 22-69 (31.9%) from the field, despite hitting 7 of its 20 (35.0%) three-point tries.
Notes
- Wagner's Jasmine Nwajei set a school-record with 45 points on 40 field goal attempts. The guard scored 72.6% (45 of 62) of the Seahawks points.
- Scognamiglio and Snow's double-doubles marked the first time that two Seawolves have recorded double-doubles in the same game this season. Anyagaligbo was two points shy of joining the duo.
- The Seawolves improved to 4-1 this season when making at least five three-pointers. They are just 2-4 when held under that mark.
