Stony Brook welcomes Harvard on Wednesday

The Stony Brook women’s basketball team (7-5) will play its final non-conference tuneup before conference play begins next week when they host Harvard on Wed., Dec. 30, at 4 p.m. 

Scouting Harvard

The Crimson, picked third in the IVY League Preseason Coaches’ Poll, started the season 4-2 but have since dropped four straight games. They are led by seniors AnnMarie Healy and Shilpa Tummala, the team’s top two scorers and rebounders. Healy enters Wednesday’s matchup averaging 14.4 ppg and 5.1 rpg, while Tummala boasts averages of 13.3 ppg and 6.6 rpg. Harvard’s defense yielded just 61.8 ppg over its first six contests, but are giving up 78.0 ppg during its four-game losing streak.

Series History

Harvard won the two previous meeting’s between the schools, the last by a margin of 87-69 on Jan. 3, 2005.

Record-Setting Six for Anyagaligbo

Freshman Ogechi Anyagaligbo (Miami, Fla.) tied an America East record with her sixth consecutive Under Armour Rookie of the Week, the most since Boston University’s Chantell Alford won six straight in 2009-10. Anyagaligbo, who set a career-high with 23 points vs. LIU Brooklyn last Monday, is the leading rebounder in the country among all freshmen, averaging 10.2 boards per game.

Sneaky Scogs

Junior Christa Scognamiglio (Orangeburg, N.Y.) tied her career-high with six steals vs. LIU Brooklyn. She leads the team and ranks in the top 10 in the conference in steals per game at 1.9.

Wingate For Three

Freshman Davion Wingate (Atlanta, Ga.) is developing into a much needed threat from three-point range. She is 6-for-7 from three over her last two games and leads the team with a 34.5% mark from behind the arc.

Efficiency Keys Win

Stony Brook had one of its top offensive performances of the season in its win over LIU Brooklyn, finishing with season-high’s in field goals made (29) and assists (15). Wingate had six of the 15 assists, a career-high, while Anyagaligbo set a career-high with 10 made field goals.
