MILWAUKEE -- The Stony Brook women's basketball team has accepted a bid to the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) and will square off with Siena Thursday at 7 p.m. at the ARC.
This is the third overall and second straight postseason tournament appearance for the Seawolves (17-13), who played in the WNIT last season and in 2006.
Four Stony Brook players were named to All-America East teams in senior Sabre Proctor (first team), sophomore Kori Bayne-Walker (second team), junior Brittany Snow (third team and All-Academic) and senior Jessica Ogunnorin (All-Defensive and All-Academic).
Siena (19-12) lost to top-seeded Quinnipiac in the MAAC Semifinals, 64-47. Freshman Margot Hetzke, a unanimous choice for MAAC Rookie of the Year, leads the Saints in scoring (17.4 PPG) and rebounding (7.4 RPG). MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and senior Tehresa Coles is second on the team in scoring (13.3 PPG) and tops in steals at three per contest.
A win would pit the Seawolves against the winner of a first-round game between Xavier and William & Mary Sunday.
