Stony Brook visits Siena for WBI First Round

Loudonville, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook women's basketball team will begin postseason play in the Women's Basketball Invitational Thursday at Siena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the ARC.

Last Time Out

No. 3 Stony Brook erased a double-digit second-half deficit and evened the score at 45-45 on a putback by sophomore Kori Bayne-Walker with 12 seconds left, but a Taylor McCarley jump shot with four seconds on the clock sent No. 6 UMBC to a 49-47 win Saturday, March 7 in the America East Quarterfinals. Bayne-Walker led all scorers with 21 points, including 17 in the second half, for Stony Brook. Sophomore Christa Scognamiglio added 11 points, and senior Jessica Ogunnorin tallied 10 points and 10 boards.

Scouting the Saints

Siena (19-12) lost to top-seeded Quinnipiac in the MAAC Semifinals, 64-47. Margot Hetzke, a unanimous choice for MAAC Rookie of the Year, leads the Saints in scoring (17.4 PPG) and rebounding (7.4 RPG). MAAC Defensive Player of the Year Tehresa Coles is second on the team in scoring (13.3 PPG) and tops in steals at three per contest.

Series History

This is the second meeting between the two teams and first since Siena claimed a 66-46 win in 1978-79.

Postseason History

This is Stony Brook's third national postseason tournament. The Seawolves played in the WNIT in 2006 and last season and are 0-2 in postseason play.

Up Next

The winner will play William & Mary or Xavier in the second round Sunday.
