Boston - Freshman Davion Wingate (Atlanta, Ga.) was named the Under Armour America East Rookie of the Week on Moday, marking the eighth straight week in which a Stony Brook player has won the award. Freshman Ogechi Anyagaligbo (Miami, Fla.) won the previous seven.
Wingate’s first career honor comes on the heels of a perfect 2-0 week in the Stony Brook's first two conference games. Wingate averaged 17.0 ppg in the two wins and was the catalyst behind the Seawolves' comeback win over Binghamton, scoring 11 of her career-high 19 points in the fourth quarter, to help erase a 16-point second half deficit. She followed it up with a 15-point performance vs. UMass Lowell, scoring 11 in the second half.
Over her last five games, Wingate is averaging 15.8 points per game and shooting 56.3% from downtown. Anyagaligbo (11.3 ppg) and Wingate (9.6 ppg), Stony Brook’s second and third leading scorers respectively, are the top two scoring freshmen in the conference.
Wingate and the Seawolves look too continue their recent form, which has seen them win six straight, when they play at UMBC on Wed., Jan. 13, at noon.
