Baltimore, Md. -
The Stony Brook women's basketball team (10-5, 2-0 AE) looks to start 3-0 in conference play for the first time in its Divison I history when it travels to UMBC on Wed, Jan.13. The game, which tips at noon, can be seen on ESPN3.com.

Scouting UMBC

UMBC’s (10-6, 1-2 AE) momentum was halted with its two losses last week. The Retrievers entered the week winners of eight of their last nine, but fell to Albany and Maine. Through 16 games, they have already matched their win total from the entire 2014-15 regular season. They rank first in the conference in turnover margin (+5.2), forcing 20.1 turnovers per game. Taylor McCarley leads the team in scoring at 12.1 ppg, followed by Pandora Wilson (11.6 ppg) and Capree Garner (10.9 ppg).

Series History

The Seawolves lead the all-time series 15-13. UMBC ended Stony Brook’s five-game win streak in the series with a win over the Seawolves in the America East Quarterfinals last season.

Wingate named America East Rookie of the Week

Freshman Davion Wingate (Atlanta, Ga.) was named the Under Armour America East Rookie of the Week on Moday, marking the eighth straight week in which a Stony Brook player has won the award. Freshman Ogechi Anyagaligbo (Miami, Fla.) won the previous seven. She averaged 17.0 ppg in the two wins and was the catalyst behind the Seawolves' comeback win over Binghamton, scoring 11 of her career-high 19 points in the fourth quarter, to help erase a 16-point second half deficit.

Steady Snow

Forward Brittany Snow (Shamong, N.J.) has been the model of consistency in her senior season, scoring in double figures in all 15 contests. She has notched double figures in 57 of 108 career games (52.7%).

Manner Goes Mad

Redshirt sophomore Elizabeth Manner (Vienna, Va.) played a key role in Stony Brook’s victory at UMass Lowell, scoring a career-high 12 points off the Stony Brook bench on 6-of-8 shooting. After Stony Brook was held to four first quarter points, Manner sparked Stony Brook to 25 second quarter points, scoring eight of her 12 in the period and sending the Seawolves into halftime with the lead.
