Orono, Maine –
The Stony Brook women’s basketball team (13-6, 5-1 AE) looks to rebound from its first conference loss on Sun., Jan. 24, in an away contest at Maine at 1 p.m.

Scouting Maine

The Black Bears will pose another stiff test for the Seawolves as they enter Sunday with a 13-7 overall record and a 4-1 record in conference play. Preseason All-America East selections Sigi Koizar and Liz Wood lead the Black Bears in scoring. Koizar is fourth in the conference in scoring and tops on her team at 16.9 ppg, sporting a league-best .405% three-point field goal percentage. Wood is the team’s leading rebounder (7.4 rpg) and ranks second on the team in scoring at 9.6 ppg. She scored a season-high 23 points last time out vs. New Hampshire. Maine boasts the league’s no. 1 scoring defense, yielding 52.3 ppg. For Stony Brook to get back in the win column, they will have to figure out a way to end Maine’s home dominance. The Black Bears are 6-0 on their home court this season.

Series History

SBU narrowly leads the all-time series, 17-15, but Maine won both meetings last season.

Scogs4Three

Junior sharpshooter Christa Scognamiglio (Orangeburg, N.Y.) is starting to find her stroke from downtown. Stony Brook’s leader in three-point field goals made has hit eight of her last 18 attempts (44.4%) from beyond the arc. Scognamiglio, who transferred to Stony Brook and has only played 49 career games for the Seawolves, ranks sixth in school history with 78 career three-pointers.

Sharing the Wealth

Thanks in large part to a career-high nine from freshman Davion Wingate (Atlanta, Ga.), the Stony Brook women’s basketball team set a season-high in assists on Thursday at Albany with 16. Four different players registered at least two assists on the evening. The Seawolves have recorded at least 10 assists in all six conference games.
