Stony Brook, N.Y. -
The Stony Brook women's basketball team (8-5), winner of four straight, looks to get off on the right foot in America East play when it hosts Binghamton (5-8) in its conference opener on Wed., Jan. 6, at noon.

Scouting Binghamton

Stony Brook will be happy to host Binghamton at Island Federal Credit Union Arena. The Bearcats are 0-8 on the road, but 5-0 on their home court this year. They are led by sophomore transfer Alyssa James, who is averaging 17.9 ppg and 8.5 rpg. Imani Watkins is a viable second scoring option, averaging 15.5 ppg, while Kim Albrecht averages 11.6 ppg.

Series History

Binghamton leads the all-time series 20-18, but the Seawolves have won the last six, including victories by 13 and nine points last season.

Record Seven for Anyagaligbo

Freshman forward Ogechi Anyagaligbo (Miami, Fla.) set an America East Conference record with her seventh straight Rookie of the Week honor on Monday.

Anyagaligbo, who was held to just two points and zero rebounds in the first half vs. Harvard, ignited a second-half comeback victory, collecting all 14 of her rebounds in the second half as well as nine of her 11 points.

For the season, Anyagaligbo is averaging 11.3 ppg and a conference-best 10.5 rpg. She is looking to become the first player in the America East to finish the season averaging a double-double since Vermont's Aaron Yantzi in 2003-04 and the first freshman to do so since Drexel's Katrina Martin in 2000-01. Only three freshmen in the nation have averaged double-doubles by year-end over the last two seasons.

Down But Not Out

The nine-point third quarter deficit the Seawolves faced vs. Harvard was the largest deficit they have faced at any point this season in a game they have won. The Seawolves closed the quarter on a 12-3 run to tie the game at 47-47 after three quarters. The Crimson held a 63-62 lead with 2:24 to play, making it the second game the Seawolves have won in which they trailed in the fourth quarter. The first was vs. Iona in their season opener.

Rebounding Edge

The Seawolves rebounding prowess is an advatage in most games, and should be again on Wednesday. Stony Brook has outrebounded its opponents in eight of its last nine games and ranks second in the conference and 37th nationally with a +7.8 rebounding margin. On the contrary, Binghamton ranks 298th in rebounding margin (-5.6).
