No. 20 Stony Brook travels north for key conference game at New Hampshire

DURHAM, N.H. – Looking to extend the season-long three game winning streak, the 20th-ranked Stony Brook football teams travels north to face New Hampshire in a key CAA Football game on Saturday at 12 p.m. in Wildcat Stadium.
 
The Seawolves (5-2, 4-0 CAA Football) currently sit in the first-place tie atop the conference standings with James Madison, while the Wildcats (5-3, 3-1 CAA Football) has won four of its last five games and sit in a second-place tie, a game out of the top spot.

Opponent
New Hampshire is 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the CAA Football standings with the lone league loss at James Madison by three points. The Wildcats, led by Sean McDonnell in his 18th season as head coach, have made the FCS Playoffs in each of the last 12 seasons.

The Series
This will be the fifth overall meeting between the two schools and the fourth meeting as conference opponents. UNH leads 3-1 in the overall series and 2-1 in CAA Football games. Stony Brook upended the 13th-ranked Wildcats 31-6 last season in LaValle Stadium.

Last Time Out
Stony Brook's football team once again used a solid defensive effort and the running game to earn a victory, this time the 22nd-ranked Seawolves got past Delaware 28-3 on at Delaware Stadium to remain unbeaten in CAA Football play. The Seawolves gained 210 rushing yards and scored three times on the ground, including 120 yards and two touchdowns from RB Stacey Bedell. The defense forced five fumbles and recorded five sacks, including three sacks and three forced fumbles by DL John Haggart and a scoop and score touchdown by DB Jaheem Woods.
 
Family Affair
Stony Brook RBs Stacey Bedell and Jordan Gowins share more than just the carries out of the backfield, the two are first cousins. Bedell, a junior from Mastic Beach, N.Y., and Gowins, a sophomore transfer from Bellport, N.Y., have family blood running through their veins. So far in 2016, the duo has combined to carry the ball 206 times for 950 yards and 12 touchdowns.
 
Haggart's Career Day Nabs Honors
Junior DL John Haggart earned CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week, STATS FCS National Defensive Player of the Week and College Sports Madness National Defensive Player of the Week for his career marks set in the win at Delaware on Oct. 22. Haggart recorded a career-best 11 tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss, three sacks and three forced fumbles in the victory over the Blue Hens.
 
Climbing The Charts
RB Stacey Bedell enters the New Hampshire game ranked among the top 10 in several of Stony Brook's career rushing records. The junior sits second in career 100 yard games (12), third in career touchdowns (23), sixth in career carries (367) and eighth in career rushing yards (2026). See page 6 for the complete rankings.
 
Lets Go Streaking
RB Stacey Bedell has rushed for at least 100 yards in each of the last three games (125 at Towson, 138 vs. Rhode Island, 120 at Delaware)...Bedell has also rushed for at least 100 yards in each of the Seawolves' CAA games this season (100 vs. Richmond).
 
More Streaks
As a team, Stony Brook has rushed for at least 200 yards in all four CAA Football games this year (221 vs. Richmond, 205 at Towson/242 vs. Rhode Island, 210 at Delaware) and a total of five straight conference games, including 236 vs. Albany to end the 2015 season.
 
And Another Streak
The Seawolves have won three straight road CAA Football games dating back to last year's win at Rhode Island.
