Seawolves compete in first event in five years at Vermont, falling 105-78

Burlington, V.T. – Stony Brook swimming and diving made its return to the pool following a five-year hiatus on Saturday afternoon, competing at the University of Vermont.
 
Junior Cassie Shear (Johannesburg, South Africa) won the Seawolves' lone event of the afternoon, posting a 1:10.99 time in the 100-yard Breaststroke. Vermont finished with 105 team points through event 13, while Stony Brook finished with 78 points.
 
Sara Chin (Long Beach, Calif.) finished with a No. 2 time in the Women's 100-yard Butterfly, recording a 1:04.37 overall time. In the first event of the day, the Seawolves' team of Emily Cabral (East Stroudsburg, P.A.), Shear, Chin and Tess Stepakoff (Newburgh, N.Y.) also finished with an overall time of 159.74 - good for No. 3 overall.

"I'm very happy with our performance and the way we competed. We got off to a rocky start with some nerves getting the best of us, but we got more competitive as the meet progressed. I'm really proud of our entire program.
 
Up Next
Stony Brook is back in action next Saturday (Oct. 28), traveling to LIU Brooklyn for a 12:30 p.m. meet. The Seawolves return to newly-renovated University Pool for the program's first home meeting in five years on Nov. 18, hosting Saint Peter's at 4 p.m.
