Handley named America East Conference Player of the Year to lead Stony Brook's 11 total honors


LOWELL, MA. – Stony Brook baseball senior CF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) was named the America East Player of the Year it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday evening at the conference awards banquet. The Seawolves also landed a total of three players on the first team, three more on the second team, three on the All-Rookie team and two on the All-Academic team.
 
Handley led Stony Brook with a .346 batting average, hits (63), runs (42), doubles (16), triples (8) and stolen bases (17), while he was second of the squad with 34 RBI and five home runs.
 
Handley was joined on the first team All-Conference by freshman RHP Brian Herrmann (Northport, N.Y.) and sophomore RF Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.). Handley was the only unanimous selection on the ballot.
 
Herrmann posted a 4-3 record on one of the Seawolves' weekend starters. He owned a 3.54 ERA overall and was 3-1 in conference games with a 3.57 ERA in eight starts. Resk led the conference with 12 home runs, including seven in America East play. He also batted .271 during the season with 33 RBI.
 
The voting was done by the league's seven head coaches.
 
Senior 1B Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) received second team honors along with sophomore 2B Brandon Janofsky (Jackson, N.J.) and junior RHP Aaron Pinto (West Covina, Calif.).
 
Baker posted a .318 batting average with a team-high 38 RBI, while Janofsky hit .299 with 25 runs and 17 RBI. Pinto posted a 4-5 record with three saves and a 3.03 ERA.
 
Herrmann was also selected to the All-Rookie team along with RHP Greg Marino (Centereach, N.Y.) and DH Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.). Marino was 2-2 with a 4.31 ERA, while Wilson batted .264 with four home runs and 21 RBI.
 
Sophomore 2B Dan McEvoy (East Moriches, N.Y.) and senior C David Real (Chandler, Ariz.) were named to the America East All-Academic team. McEvoy owns a 3.55 GPA as a business major and Real graduated with a 3.49 GPA last week with a degree in sociology.

Stony Brook opens the America East Conference tournament as the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 seed Hartford on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at LeLacheur Park.
