STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Coming off of its third straight win, the Stony Brook men's soccer team (5-3-1, 2-0-0 AE) will take on No. 25 Fordham on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. from Jack Coffey Field.
Last time out, the Seawolves topped conference-favorite, No. 16 UMass Lowell, 4-0. It was the Seawolves second conference win of the season after downing Albany, 2-1 on Sept. 21.
Seawolves Notes
- Freshman Rondell Payne (San Fernando, Trinidad) was named America East Rookie of the Week after scoring his first career goal in the win over UMass Lowell.Â
- Redshirt sophomore Gabriel Fernandes (North Babylon, N.Y.) dished out two assists on Friday night, tying senior Martieon Watson (Vessigny, Trinidad) for most assists in a game this season.
- Freshman Christian Miesch (Brig, Switzerland) picked up his second career shutout on Friday night.
- Senior Serge Gamwanya (Trondheim, Norway) leads the Seawolves in goals with five.
- The Seawolves own a 2-0-0 all time record against Fordham, dating back to their first matchup in 2012.
- Stony Brook (16 points) was tabbed sixth in the America East preseason poll, just ahead of Hartford (12 points) and Binghamton (11 points). UMass-Lowell (44 points), New Hampshire (42 points) and Albany (40 points) finished atop the poll heading into the new season.Â
Scouting Fordham
- The Rams sit at 5-1-2 (1-0-0 A10) this season after topping URI, 4-2 on Saturday night.
- Junior Joergen Oland leads the Rams with four goals on the season.
- Senior goalkeeper Rashid Nuhu has started all but one matches in goal, owning a .781 save percentage.
- Fordham is led by head coach Jim McElderry, who is in his 16th season at the helm in the Bronx. He has led the Rams to three NCAA appearances, including last year's run to the quarterfinals.
- The Rams last battled Stony Brook in 2016, falling to the Seawolves 4-1.
