Stony Brook Football Lands 10 High-End Signees on Early Signing Day


STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Stony Brook football and head coach Chuck Priore signed 10 players during Wednesday's early National Signing Day. 

Among Wednesday's additions are four players from New York, including a pair of Long Islanders. In addition to the local flavor of the class, three players hail from New Jersey, two from Pennsylvania and one from the District of Columbia.

The 2019 early signing class breakdown includes a split of five offensive players and five on the defensive side. 

The Seawolves are set to open the 2020 season at Fordham on Aug. 29 and play the first of five home games in Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium on Sept. 26 against Sacred Heart.

Collected over 1,500 receiving yards with 20 touchdowns in three seasons for coach Michael Hansen at Connetquot…Earned the 2019 NFF Award as the best wide receiver in Suffolk County after his senior season with 864 yards and 10 touchdowns on 49 catches…Was a two-time All-State and All-County honoree and received All-Division honors three times...A versatile player in high school, having played WR, TE, DB, LB, K, P, KR and PR…Amassed 326 total tackles and eight interceptions on defense during his career. 
 
Nick Chimienti – WR/DB - 6-1 – 185

Collected 1,139 receiving yards on 56 catches and nine touchdowns in 2019 for coach Glen McNamee at Central Dauphin High School…Tallied 1,796 career receiving yards on 104 receptions and 13 touchdowns in three varsity seasons…Added 485 kick return yards, 336 punt return yards and 110 interception return yards to compile 2753 all-purpose yards in 38 career games…Recorded 95 total tackles in his career with 58 solo stops…Earned first team All-State as a receiver by PENN LIVE…Helped guide the Rams to the 6A runner-up in 2019.

Averaged 122.6 rushing yards per game in two seasons at Tottenville High School for coach Brian Neville...Gained 2084 rushing yards on 223 carries with 23 rushing touchdowns in 17 career games…Recorded nine 100-plus yard games over his career…Pulled down 18 reception for 378 yards and three touchdowns in his two seasons…Collected 34 total tackles with three interceptions on the defensive side of the ball.

Chosen All-New Jersey first team by the USA TODAY NETWORK after catching a team-leading 45 passes for 613 yards and five touchdowns for the Non-Public Group 4 runner-up as a senior at Bergen Catholic in 2018 for coach Vito Campanile...Did not see any action in 2019 at Maryland.

Drew Guttieri – QB – 6-2 – 195
Oakdale, N.Y. – Connetquot
Passed for 2,107 yards and 21 touchdowns as a senior for coach Michael Hansen at Connetquot High School…Earned the 2019 Boomer Award as the top QB in Suffolk County…Also rushed for 545 yards and eight touchdowns…Named two-time All-Long Island and All-Suffolk County…Was a two-year captain for the Thunderbirds…In two seasons at QB passed for 4,002 yards and 40 touchdowns to go with 785 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns.

Wexford, Pa. - Pine Richland
Collected 371 career total tackles in 54 games for coach Eric Kasperowicz at Pine Richland High School…Recorded 14.5 sacks during his career and picked off a pair of passes and forced four fumbles…As a receiver pulled in 34 receptions for 423 yards and five touchdowns over his four varsity seasons…Helped the Rams to a 6A State Championship in 2018 with a 16-0 record…Earned back-to-back All-6A State honors…Named to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette Fabulous 22…Played in the U19 USA International Bowl at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.

Was a three-year starter at safety and rover for coach Bill McGregor at Dematha Catholic High School…Earned 2019 first team All-Washington Catholic Athletic Conference as a senior...Was named team captain in 2019.
 
Raekwon Smith – DB – 6-3 – 180
Staten Island, N.Y. – Curtis
Played four seasons at linebacker and defensive back for coach Peter Gambardella at Curtis High School…Collected 30 tackles with a pair of interceptions and three forced fumbles as a senior…Recorded 50 tackles with 6.0 sacks in 2018 as a junior.
 
Collin Tunc – OL – 6-2 – 285
Wyckoff, N.J. - Bergen Catholic
Played in nine games on the offensive line for Campanile at Bergen Catholic High School in 2019...Was a two-year starter…Helped guide the Crusaders to a state championship in 2017 and runner-up in 2018.
