STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Right-hander Nick Tropeano is coming home.
The Stony Brook alum has signed a minor league contract with the New York Yankees that includes an invitation to big league camp for spring training, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.
Tropeano, a West Islip native, originally was drafted in the fifth round out of Stony Brook in 2011. That season with the Seawolves, Tropeano earned All-America honors while posting a 1.84 ERA — the program's single-season record.
He is a two-time America East Pitcher of the Year.
The 29-year-old Tropeano has made 42 career appearances (39 starts) while spending parts of five seasons in the majors with the Los Angeles Angels and Houston Astros.
He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2016 and now appears poised to reestablish himself.
