Swimming and Diving Adds Seven to Incoming Class

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The Stony Brook swimming and diving team is adding some fire power to its upcoming roster.
 
Head coach Kerry Smith has announced that Mary Kate Conway, Sara DiStefano, Amanda Heinz, Olivia Honaker, Erin Lamirande, Briana Liew and Lara Youssef will be joining the program this fall.
 
"These young women each bring something special to the Seawolf family," Smith said. "Collectively they will help with the depth and growth of our team as we continue to build. Each of the women believe in the vision that we have for the future of Stony Brook swimming and diving and are ready to rock and roll. 2020-21 is going to be a fun year and things are only starting to heat up."
 
Mary Kate Conway
Schenectady, N.Y./Mohonasen Senior High School
Top times: 100 free 51:75, 200 free 1:51.38, 500 free 5:00.50, 100 fly 56.90, 200 fly 2:04.74

 
While competing with her club, Schenectady-Saratoga Swim Club, Conway has earned six individual titles at the Adirondack Short Course Championships, including four in 2019. That year, she took home the gold in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly. 
 
At the high school level at Mohonasen Senior High, Conway earned a place in event finals in two races at the 2019 NYSPHSAA Girls Federation Championship, including a 10th-place finish in the 200 free.
 
Sara DiStefano
Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by-the-Sea

 
DiStefano island hops from Staten Island to Long Island to join the Seawolves' diving program. 
 
The gymnast-turned-diver competed at Village Greens Swim Club where she holds the diving records for the 13-14 and 15-17 year-old divisions. DiStefano is also a member of Hopper Aquatics.
 
Amanda Heinz
West Babylon, N.Y./St. Anthony's/Providence
Top times: 100 breast 1:06.78, 200 breast 2:24.94, 200 IM 2:12.03

 
Heinz will return home to Long Island after spending her freshman season at Providence College. With the Friars, Heinz competed in three events at the Big East Conference Championships.
 
As a senior at St. Anthony's High School, Heinz was an individual state qualifier in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard IM. She also swam on the 200-yard freestyle relay.
 
While swimming with her club, Team Suffolk, Heinz earned final spots in two events at the 2019 MR Suffolk County Championships.
 
Olivia Honaker
Cary, N.C./Panther Creek High School

 
With her club team, TAC Titans, Honaker nabbed two runner-up finishes in the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard breaststroke at the 2019 North Carolina Senior Championships. She also competed at the Long Course Senior Championships last summer.
 
At the high school level, she has competed at the state's central regional championships the past two years.
 
Erin Lamirande
Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley High School
 
At Perkiomen Valley, Lamirande has placed fourth in the 500-yard freestyle at the 2019 and 2020 Pioneer Athletic Conference championships and competed at this year's state District 01 championship. She was also named Mercury All-Area Honorable Mention this season.
 
Lamirande also swims with Plymouth Whitemarsh Aquatics and competed at both the Middle Atlantic Senior Long Course and Short Course Championships last summer.
 
Briana Liew
Bellerose, N.Y./Bayside High School

Top times: 50 free 23.74, 100 back 57.60, 100 breast 1:05.31, 100 fly 57.74
 
While competing with Bayside High School, Liew finaled in two events at the 2019 state championship, highlighted by an eighth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle.
 
At the Metropolitan Senior Short Course winter championships in February as a member of LaGuardia Aquatic Club, she nabbed four spots in event finals and went on to earn a top-10 finish in the 100-meter breaststroke.
 
Lara Youssef
Astoria, N.Y./Bard High School Early College Queens
Top times: 100 free 53.86, 100 fly 56.60, 200 fly 2:07.30

 
Like Liew, Youssef also competed at the club level at LaGuardia Aquatic Club. With the Twisters, Youssef has appeared in event finals at several high-profile competitions. 
 
At the 2019 Metropolitan Senior Championships, Youssef placed ninth in the 200-meter butterfly and 10th in the 100-meter fly. 
 
She also earned a pair of finals appearances at the Eastern Senior Zone Championship, touching the wall for ninth place in the 100-meter fly.
