SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Giants selected the contract of Stony Brook Hall of Famer Nick Tropeano on Friday night, making him the second Seawolves player to make a big league roster during the 2021 campaign. Daniel Zamora was called up to the Mets at the end of April but did not make an appearance.
He had been pitching with the club's AAA affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats, for the first month-plus of the campaign. Tropeano had a 2.79 ERA in three starts in Sacramento, recording 13 strikeouts in 9.2 innings of work.
The West Islip, N.Y. native spent all of 2020 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, finishing with a 1.15 ERA in 15.2 innings during the shortened campaign.
Tropeano is top five all-time in career wins (third), strikeouts (fourth) and ERA (five) and helped lead the Seawolves to the 2010 America East Championship and 2011 regular season title. He's still the program's single-season record holder with a 1.84 ERA during the 2011 campaign.
