Box Score STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Junior defender
Sebastian Rojek was the hero for Stony Brook on Saturday night as his golden goal lifted the Seawolves to a thrilling come-from-behind, 2-1, victory over Fairfield in double overtime. Stony Brook improved to (4-1-0) on the season and is currently on a three-match winning streak.
Rojek's game-winner came in the 113
th minute and was setup off a free kick that was taken by senior midfielder
Trausti Birgisson. Birgission flicked the ball down the right side of the field and found a streaking
Sean Towey. Towey sent a perfect cross to the back post inside the box that found Rojek, who directed a header into the back of the net.
After falling behind, 1-0, in the first half Stony Brook was able to hold the Stags off the scoreboard for the remainder of the match. The Seawolves knotted the game up at 1-1 in the 73
rd minute when freshman forward
Jonas Bickus drove a one-touch shot into the back of the net. Sophomore midfielder
Trevor Harrison swiftly navigated his way through the Fairfield defense and found Bickus inside the box for the tally.
The Seawolves' defense stood strong once again behind four saves from junior goalkeeper
Edmond Kaiser. Stony Brook has surrendered one goal or fewer in four out of its five matches thus far this season.
STATS AND NOTES
- Rojek's goal was his first of the season and the second of his career. His last goal came on November 2, 2019, at UMass Lowell. Tonight's golden goal marked his first-career game-winner.
- Bickus tallied his second goal of the season and first since the Seawolves' season opening victory against LIU on August 26.
- Birgission, Towey, and Harrison all recorded assists for Stony Brook. Birigission tallied his second assist of the season, while Towey and Harrison each notched their first of the year.
- Kaiser made four saves in net as he picked up his fourth win of the season.

The Seawolves head to Lawrenceville, NJ to face Rider on Tuesday, September 14, at 7 p.m. The meeting marks the first matchup between the teams since September 24, 2019, when the Broncs picked up a 2-1 win over the Seawolves at LaValle Stadium.
