THE MATCHUP: The Seawolves come off their Bye Week to take on FBS foe UMass on Saturday, September 17, at 3:30 p.m. The game is set to air on ESPN3 with Jay Burnham (play-by-play), Andy Gresh (analyst), and Matt Goldstein (sideline) on the call. Stony Brook and UMass are set to meet for the fourth time in history. It marks the first meeting between the teams since UMass made the jump to the FBS level. The Seawolves and Minutemen last went head-to-head on September 25, 2010, at LaValle Stadium with UMass coming away with a 26-21 victory. Stony Brook is 0-3 all-time against UMass and 0-2 in Amherst.

RUN THE FOOTBALL: Stony Brook's ground attack has been a driving force behind its offensive success. Since the start of the 2018 season, the Seawolves have rushed for over 100 yards as a team in 36 of their 40 games played. Stony Brook eclipsed the 100-yard mark 46 times out of their last 53 games dating back to the start of the 2017 season. The Seawolves have rushed for over 100 yards in four-straight games dating to November 6, 2021, at Maine.

VS. FBS OPPONENTS: Stony Brook's matchup at UMass marks the 13
th time in program history that it will face an FBS opponent on the gridiron. The Seawolves are 1-11 against FBS teams in the previous meetings. Stony Brook met Toledo to open the season in 2015, but the game was not completed due to weather. Stony Brook's lone win against an FBS opponent came on September 29, 2012, when it beat Army, 23-3.

CFPA Watch List: Redshirt senior running back
Ty Son Lawton was named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy Watch List as announced by the organization on Thursday, September 8. Lawton was one of 38 student-athletes from around the nation to be named to the watch list and was just one of nine CAA Football student-athletes to receive the prestigious recognition.
