STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Facing a foe receiving votes in the national poll, the Stony Brook men's soccer program gave its visitors all they could handle but Yale scored in the 84th minute to break a 2-2 deadlock and escape LaValle Stadium with a victory on Tuesday night.
Paolo Carroll scored the tiebreaking goal off a rebound after the Seawolves roared back in the second half, dominating the pace of play for most of the period and securing a 2-1 advantage with just under a half hour left in the contest.
Trausti Birgisson knotted the contest in the 56th minute, as a curling effort found the far netting to knot the contest.
Three minutes later, Stony Brook appeared to have the go-ahead goal as
Kameron Blaise found a deflected pass and slotted it home but it was called back due to an offsides call.
Three minutes after that,
Jonas Bickus scored to give Stony Brook the lead.
Yale equalized 92 seconds later, as Quanah Brayboy's set piece kick found the head of TJ Presthus who used his head to knock the ball into the top corner and knot the proceedings at two apiece.
Play would settle down before Carroll's tiebreaker that went off the hands of Copenhaver and rolled towards the line before the goalscorer punched it home.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"I thought it was a really good performance. I thought we were the better team. We pressed them well, we created a lot of chances and had a lot of shots. Overall, I thought the performance was really good. Similar to the weekend, though, we did not do a good job of defending our own box and that ended up being the difference" - head coach
Ryan Anatol
