ARLINGTON, Texas – One of the greatest Seawolves in Stony Brook baseball history has found a new home in Texas. Stony Brook legend Travis Jankowski has signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers and received an invitation to spring training.

Jankowski was the 2012 ABCA/Rawlings National Co-Player of the Year and a first team All-American by four different news outlets, he led the nation in hits, runs scored and triples during that run through Coral Gables and Baton Rouge en route to Omaha. Jankowski is still the only player in Stony Brook baseball history to be honored with National Player of the Year recognition.

He was a first round pick (44th overall) by the San Diego Padres out of Stony Brook on the eve of Stony Brook's historic Super Regional win at LSU. He was inducted into the Rita and Kurt Eppenstein Stony Brook Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017 and later was enshrined with the entire 2012 team at this year's Hall of Fame Induction ceremony.

The Lancaster native has numerous single-season records from the 2012 season for Stony Brook, including hits (110), at-bats (266), runs-scored (79), stolen-bases (36), and triples (11).

Last season, Jankowski played in 44 games, 43 with the New York Mets and one game with the Seattle Mariners. Over his eight-year career, Jankowski has accumulated 252 hits, 159 runs scored, 72 stolen bases, and 54 RBI. The Stony Brook legend has also made stops with the Padres, Reds, and Phillies.

The former Seawolves All-American is one of five players who have made the show, joining Daniel Zamora, who recently signed a minor league deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates, seven-year veteran Nick Tropeano, former Miami Marlin Tom Koehler and Minnesota Twins legend Joe Nathan.

The Rangers spring training schedule is slated to begin on February 24, in Surprise, Arizona, when they take on the Kansas City Royals at 3:05 p.m. Opening Day is March 30, as the squad begins a three-game set with the Philadelphia Phillies at Globe Life Field.
