WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Stony Brook men's soccer team fell on the road to UNC Wilmington, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UNCW opened up scoring in the first minute of play, a goal from Ethan Newsome put the Seahawks ahead early. The squad then capitalized on their lead with a goal from Cesar D'Amico in the 16
th minute.
Finlay Oliver secured Stony Brook's first shot opportunity in the 14
th minute with
Ryota Kono following up with a wide shot soon after.
Rushon Sandy tallied his first save of the contest in the 22
nd minute, followed by the first on goal strike from
Lorenzo Selini. The senior midfielder tried to fire one high and find the top of the net but was rejected by UNCW's Trey Smiley.
Sandy would close out the first half with another save, holding the score to 2-0 heading into the break.
The Seahawks then pieced together a third and fourth goal in the middle of the second half from Bryan Miralrio and Newsome. In between,
Sean Towey gave Stony Brook another opportunity with a shot to the bottom right corner that was stopped in the 69
th minute.
UNC Wilmington held off Stony Brook's push to secure a shutout victory over the Seawolves on Saturday.
