Baseball Scores 10 Runs; Topped By #2/3 LSU In Weekend Finale at Alex Box

BATON ROUGE, La. -- After Stony Brook University earned the victory over #2/3 Louisiana State University (LSU) on Friday evening, the Seawolves would match their season-high with 10 runs this afternoon but could not hold the Tigers at bay and were bested 18-10.

Six different Seawolves took the mound at Alex Box stadium today during the defeat as junior Colton Book made his second start of the season. The left-hander exited the game in the first after LSU tallied an early five runs.

The combination of graduate Ty Stout, junior Colin Rhein, sophomore Jerek Hobb, freshman Ty Panariello and senior Quinlan Montgomery would complete the reminder of the game by allowing 13 runs and striking out four batters, respectively.

In the batter's box, the Seawolves were led by sophomore Johnny Pilla, who went 1-for-3 on the day with his first career homer and three RBI. Senior Cam Santerre put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with his first career homer for the Seawolves and tallied two RBI. Junior Nicholas Solorzano also contributed for Stony Brook off the bench, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double and two RBI, his first as a Seawolf.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers came out of storming by tallying the 10 runs in the first two innings of the afternoon. In the first inning, LSU notched two RBI singles and a bases-clearing triple by Micheal Braswell III to take the 5-0, forcing the exit of Book. In the next inning, the Tigers scored another five runs on three RBI singles to take the early 10-0 advantage.

Stony Brook would get themselves on the scoreboard in the third. Fox got the inning started by recording a double and Santerre followed with his first career homer to bring the score to 10-2.

The Seawolves deficit grew to 13-2 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the fifth inning. The Stony Brook offense exploded for six runs which was highlighted by a three-run homer off the bat of Pilla and a two-run single from junior Cal Parillo, his first hit as a Seawolf, which brought the score to 13-8 in favor of the Tigers.

LSU built their lead to 17-8 before the Stony Brook offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 17-10 in the seventh. The Seawolves pushed two runs across on a two-run double from Solorzano, his first RBI as a Seawolf, that would score sophomore Matthew Wright and Parillo. The Seawolves were unable to get any closer, as LSU added one run to their tally on the way to an 18-10 final.
