Offensive Explosion Leads Baseball to Victory over Manhattan at Joe Nathan Field

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Joseph Delanzo and Matt Miceli each collected three RBI, while Cam Santerre reached base five times to help power the Stony Brook Seawolves over the Manhattan Jaspers 16-4 on Tuesday at Joe Nathan Field.

Brendan Pattermann (1-0) picked up his first victory of the season after his appearance out of the bullpen for Stony Brook (21-17). The right-hander went two shutout innings without giving up a hit, allowing no walks and striking out two. The Seawolves bullpen, which included Pattermann, Jerek Hobb, Quinlan Montgomery, Ty Panariello, Ty Stout, and Ty Saunders combined for 7.0 scoreless innings and allowed just one hit  in relief.

Delanzo went 1-for-4 at the plate with a double and two walks in addition to his three RBI and Miceli put together a 2-for-3 day with two walks, supplementing his three RBI performance for the Seawolves. Santerre compiled a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 3-for-5 with a double, two walks, two RBI and three stolen bags. Also, Erik Paulsen captured two hits and Johnny Pilla and Nicholas Solorzano each tallied two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Seawolves were trailing 3-0 in the first inning before they responded with two runs of their own in the frame. Following the lead-off single from Santerre and back-to-back walks from Miceli and E. Paulsen, Pilla got Stony Brook on the board with a fielder's choice. A few batters later, Delanzo drew a walk that brought in Miceli, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

The Jaspers expanded their lead to 4-2 in the next inning before the Seawolves offense got back to work, taking the lead in the second. This time, E. Paulsen drove in Santerre on a base-knock, Pilla reaching on an error that brought home Miceli, and a walk by Delanzo with the bases juiced to take the 5-4 lead.

Stony Brook and Pattermann held Manhattan without a run before expanding their lead to 7-4 the following inning. The Seawolves notched three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a single from Miceli and another run from a hit by Pilla.

In the bottom of the fourth, Stony Brook put the game out of reach by exploding for seven runs in the inning that allowed them to take a 14-4 lead. The squad an extra base-hit RBI from Santerre, Miceli, and Solorzano in the inning.

Over the next four innings, the group of Hobb, Montgomery, Panariello, and Stout left the Jaspers scoreless. Delanzo drove in a run in the bottom half of the eighth before Saunders finished off the game in the ninth inning to secure the Seawolves fifth victory in a row.
