HOW IT HAPPENED
After Smink stat down the first six batters in a row, the squad put runs on the scoreboard first. In the second inning, Carson came across to score the lone run of the inning for Stony Brook after Wright reached on a fielder's-choice to get themselves on the board.
The Phoenix failed to push any runs or hits across before the Seawolves built on their lead in the fifth inning. Smink retired nine of the 10 batters he faced, with one Elon batter reaching from a walk. The Stony Brook offense would explod for six runs, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Carson, RBI double from Fox and a two-run single from Brett Paulsen, which brought the lead to 7-0.
Elon would record their first hit of the game in the sixth inning, but Smink held the away team in check by sitting down the final batter of the inning to end his afternoon. The Seawolves kept the pressure on and tallied another run in the sixth. Wright and Micheli began the inning with a double and single, followed by a walk from
Evan Fox to load the bases.
Johnny Pilla did his job and drove in Wright on a sac-fly, bringing the score to 8-0.
Rhein kept the Phoenix without a run before building on their lead in the eighth inning. The Seawolves scored 10 runs in the inning, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Delanzo and a three-run double from M. Miceli, bringing the Stony Brook advantage to 18-0. Elon put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Seawolves still coasted to the 18-2 win. More details to come.
