WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook baseball team fell to Army this afternoon at Doubleday Field, 4-1.
Senior Ty Saunders (1-4) started and took the loss on the mound for Stony Brook (15-16). The right-hander went 2.0 innings, allowing two runs and struck out two batters. Junior Colton Book was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 1.1 shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out two.
Offensively, Evan Fox led the way for the Seawolves after he finished 2-for-4 with a walk. Also, Matt Brown-Eiring drew two walks, which included the only RBI for the Seawolves this afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After Army tallied the first two runs of the game in the first inning, Saunders came back in the second and collected a 1-2-3 inning. Hobb came into the game in the third inning and stranded two runners on base in the frame.
The Seawolves would get runners on base in the fourth inning. With two outs, Erik Paulsen and Brett Paulsen tallied back-to-back hits to have runners on first and second. However, the Seawolves were held scoreless after a pop-out to end the inning.
Army tallied two more runs in the fourth inning. Following the scoreless frames by both teams in the fifth and sixth inning, the Seawolves first put runs on the board in the seventh inning. Stony Brook plated a run on a based-loaded walk by senior Brown-Eiring, making the score 4-1. The Seawolves were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
GAME NOTES
- Stony Brook left 10 runners stranded on base in the loss.
- Stony Brook pitchers faced 35 Army hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and six fly balls while striking out eight.
- The Seawolves drew six walks from Army pitching.
- Senior Evan Fox led the Seawolves at the plate, going 2-for-4. It marked his ninth multi-hit game of the season which is second on the team.
- Jerek Hobb, Ty Panariello, Book, Quinlan Montgomery, and Ty Stout made appearances out of the pen for Stony Brook this afternoon.
- E. Paulsen, B. Paulsen, Cam Santerre, and Matthew Wright recorded a hit this afternoon.
- The Seawolves did not commit an error this afternoon, their third clean-sheet in a row.
- Stony Brook moves to 6-3 all-time against Army.

The Seawolves return to the diamond this weekend for a three game series against Campbell University, beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Seawolves will then face the Fighting Camels on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. and finish the series off on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The series will be streamed live on FloBaseball.
