INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Six Stony Brook University track and field student-athletes were announced as individual qualifiers for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country committee on Thursday.
Evan Brennan (10,000m), George Franks (400m), Collin Gilstrap (1,500m), Fiona McLoughlin (10,000m), Carlos Santos Jr. (3,000m Steeple) and Grace Weigele (5,000m) will all compete at the NCAA East Prelims hosted by the University of Kentucky from May 22-25 in Lexington.
Brennan ran a program record 28:57.86 in the 10,000 meter earlier this season at the Raleigh Relays. It stands as the third fastest time in the CAA and the 16th fastest in the Division I Northeast Region.
Franks clocked a program record 45.88 in the 400-meter dash at the CAA Outdoor Championships, taking home a silver medal. His time is the second-fastest in the CAA this season and the top mark in the Division I Northeast Region.
Gilstrap won the 1,500 meter at the CAA Outdoor Championships and at the Penn Relays during the season. He set a new program record in the event at the Raleigh Relays, clocking a 3:41.03 finish, which ranks No. 1 in the CAA and No. 8 in the Division I Northeast Region this season.
McLoughlin owns the fastest 10,000-meter time (33:40.85, Penn Relays) in the CAA and the ninth-fastest mark in the Division I Northeast Region this season. McLoughlin's performance at the Penn Relays also set a new program record.
Santos Jr. set a program record (8:40.32) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase earlier this season at the Penn Relays. His time stands as the fastest in the CAA and the second-fastest in the Division I Northeast Region this season.
Weigele will compete in the 5,000 meter, which she posted a season-best 15:56.27 clocking in at the Penn Relays earlier this season. Her time is No. 3 in the CAA and No. 7 in the Division I Northeast Region.
The NCAA preliminary meets are from Wednesday, May 22, to Saturday, May 25, in Lexington, Ky. (East) and Fayetteville, Ark. (West). The top 12 performers from each region will advance to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships from June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore., at Historic Hayward Field.
