PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Stony Brook University women's soccer team fell on the road at La Salle, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon. Despite finishing with a 17-11 edge in shots, Stony Brook was held scoreless for the first time this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stony Brook had three early chances, including off a corner in the opening minute of action, but only one of the three shots were on goal. La Salle then had three chances offensively, scoring in the 22nd minute to break the ice.
Nicolette Pasquarella made back-to-back saves in the 28th and 30th minute, keeping the Seawolves' deficit at one. Stony Brook mustered just three more shots down the stretch in the first half, with Hannah Maracina's try sailing high over the cage.
Pasquarella made her third save of the afternoon in the early portion of the second half, but the Explorers put a second past the senior keeper in the 65th minute to add to the lead. As Stony Brook looked for its first tally, shots from Linn Beck and Kerry Pearson missed high. Stony Brook's offensive pressure created chances, but shots from Maracina, Kristina Garcia, Reilly Rich and Hedvig Helling were all stopped.
La Salle held off Stony Brook's push to secure a shutout victory over the Seawolves on Sunday.
