STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Stony Brook downed Drexel 3-1 to earn a victory on senior day on Sunday afternoon at LaValle Stadium. The Seawolves fought back after allowing an early goal, scoring three unanswered to close out a two-win week in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel opened the scoring when Liv Brocious scored just over three minutes into the contest. Jona Hennings saved the initial shot by the Dragons, but it bounded out towards Brocious for the first goal of the afternoon.
Stony Brook responded in the 22nd minute when Sammy Hannwacker scored an Olimpico-style goal. Hannwacker played the ball toward the back post from the corner, bending it over the outstretched hands of the Drexel keeper and into the back of the net to level the match.
Stony Brook then busted up the 1-1 tie on Linn Beck's 37th-minute goal. Hedvig Helling and Reilly Rich assisted the goal. Stony Brook carried the 2-1 advantage into the intermission.
Out of the halftime break, the Seawolves pushed it to a two-goal advantage when Beck scored her eighth goal of the season. Hannwacker and Abigail Roche assisted the goal. Hennings made four saves in the second half and despite Drexel finishing with an edge in second-half shots, the Seawolves shut out the Dragons over the final 45 minutes to earn the victory.
