Men's Track And Field Kicks Off Indoor Season With Impressive Performances At FastTrack Opener

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Stony Brook men's track and field opened its indoor season on Friday afternoon at the FastTrack Season Opener. The Seawolves posted a plethora of strong performances throughout the day, recording 14 top-eight finishes, including an event win in the 4x800 relay by Matthew Brodsky, Andrew Lawler, Fernando Diaz, and Jaden Medrano.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Brodsky, A. Lawler, Diaz, and Medrano teamed up to win the 4x800 relay event (8:08.83).
  • Caleb Gartner posted a solid showing in the 3000m, finishing second (8:17:37).
  • Brian Liebowitz finished third in the mile run (4:15.24), setting a new PR in the event.
  • Ethan Green placed third in the 3000m, with a time of 8:19.79, setting a new PR.
  • Jamal Joseph recorded a fourth-place finish in the 300m (35.57).
  • Andres Acosta Mondriguez finished fourth in the 800m (1:56.19).
  • Gavin Catherwood placed fourth in the 3000m event (8:32.71).
  • Brodsky finished fifth in the 500m (1:06.43).
  • Medrano picked up a fifth-place finish in the 800m (1:56.62).
  • Joseph Bertola finished sixth in the 3000m (8:38.77).
  • Walesky Nowak posted a seventh-place finish in the 800m (1:57.40).
  • Chris Tardugno placed seventh in the 3000m (8:38.92).
  • Collin McLaughlin finished eighth in the mile run (4:22.86), setting a new PR in the event.
  • Luca Maneri placed eighth in the 3000m (8:42.57).

"We got some nice opening day efforts from the men's group, mainly Brian in the mile, the guys in the 3K, particularly Caleb and Ethan," noted head coach Andy Ronan. "Our sprint group got some of the cobwebs off after training hard for the last few months. Looking forward to seeing what can be accomplished as the season rolls along."
