STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Stony Brook and New Hampshire played finished in a 2-2 tie on Sunday afternoon at LaValle Stadium. Linn Beck and Hannah Maracina tallied goals, but UNH scored twice in an 86-second span in the second half to pull even and eventually end in a draw.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stony Brook broke the ice when Beck notched her fifth goal of the season a little over eight minutes into the contest, assisted by Taylor Steinagel and Eva Sprewell. Beck found the back of the net on a header after a high-lofted cross from Steinagel across the box.
The Seawolves took the 1-0 lead into the second half. Stony Brook increased its lead to 2-0 on a goal from Hannah Maracina, her third of the season, just over six minutes into the second stanza. Abigail Roche and Reilly Rich assisted on the goal, with quick redirects from both to find the right foot of Maracina, who just barely snuck it by the New Hampshire defender stationed on the goal line.
Stony Brook had a couple of chances to pad the lead, but it was New Hampshire who turned the momentum completely with two goals in under two minutes.
Olivia Siwicki netted a goal at the 58:34 mark to cut the deficit in half. 86 seconds later, the Wildcats knotted it up at 2-2 on a goal from Shya Walker. The Seawolves continued to press forward, as evidenced by the 20 second-half shots and 9-0 corner advantage during the final 45 minutes, but could not muster another goal. The draw represented Stony Brook's fifth consecutive decision, remaining unbeaten since August 17.
