OVERVIEW: The Seawolves are back in action this weekend for the first time in almost two weeks after cancelling last week's Holiday Inn Express Tournament due to the national tragedy that struck the United States last week. Stony Brook looks to get on the winning track as it resumes conference play with a a pair of game against conference rivals New Hampshire and Maine.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: New Hampshire is 1-1-2 thru and 0-1 in the conference thru Sunday's action. Maine is 1-1-1.
GETTING BLANKED: The Seawolves have yet to get one in the win column after a pair of shutout losses last weekend at the UCI Nike Invitational in Irvine, Calif. SB fell to host UC-Irvine on Friday, 2-0, and then were stopped by Cal-State Fulleton on Sunday by the score of 5-0. The last time SB was shutout three consecutive games was in the 1997 season when it failed to score in the first four games of the year.
STRIKING FIRST: Scoring first may help change the fortunes of the Stony Brook women's soccer team. In the first three games, the Seawolves' opponents have tallied first and have gone on to victory.
IT'S BEEN A WHILE: It has been quite some time since Stony Brook has met the opponents it will face this weekend. SB last faced New Hampshire back in the 1989 season, its first season of Division I competition, and fell to the Wildcats, 4-0.
The Seawolves last faced Maine in 1996 and earend a 3-2 win.
THREE TO GROW ON: Three freshmen have all started the first three games of their collegiate careers. Maggie Haren (back), Leanna Yust (midfield) and Lea Kyle (forward) have all been impressive early on so far this season.
NO MAKEUP YET: The cancellation of last week's game versus St. Joseph's and Fairfield/American have yet to be rescheduled. There is no definite answer on whether or not the games will be rescheduled for a later date.
SERIES RECORDS: The all-time series is level at 1-1 between New Hampshire and Stony Brook heading into the weekend. Stony Brook holds a 3-1 series edge over Maine.
ROAD WARRORS: Due to the cancellation of last week's games, Stony Brook will now play six of its first seven games on the road after opening the season at home against BU. The 11 road games on the 2001 schedule are the most games that Stony Brook has ever played away from home in one season.
NEWS AND NOTES: After the two losses at the UCI Nike Invitational, SB is now 0-4 all-time in California and 0-6 overall versus teams from that state . . . SB last started the season 0-3 back in 1995 . . . Emily Snyder made her first start of the year against Fullerton . . . Kerri McCabe needs two goals to move into fifth place all-time . . . Ashley Blake gave up her first goal of her collegiate career against Fullerton . . . last week's tragedy forced the cancellation of the Holiday Inn Express tournament, a tournament that has been held for the past 14 years.
